Just finished my February red work Calendar girl ! The sashing is a " CUPID"S ARROW " just perfect for the Valentine's Day Month.

Well here she is.... February Calendar Girl Redwork Stitchery quilt block. Isn't she just the cutest ! Putting her Valentine's Day Card in the Mailbox ! I was planning on posting my calendar girls the 1st of each month but I wanted to wait for Doreen to post her's . I will be posting a picture of this block finished near the end of the month with a pieced sashing.
We are using the new line Rouenneries Deux French General by Moda . This fabric is giving the vintage look we wanted.

My Miniature Toy Sewing Machines cleaned in a Whink....

Just learned of a great product that cleans rust called " WHINK Rust Stain Remover ". Just look how lemon oil and Whink made my little sewing machines just shine. We went to visit my parents last weekend and went to the Flea Market on Sunday.

Look what I bought there! This adorable Poppy flower sewing machine. We took it back to my parents house and my mom pulled out this bottle of Whink. With a little q-tip we were able to remove the little bit of rust that was on it and then we used lemon oil to clean it up.
Monday morning I cleaned up the rest of my collection of Sewing machines that I have displayed in my sewing room / office.

It has been a very busy couple of weeks here and no sewing. I hope to start a new quilt project next week when things calm down here.

Progressing slowly on my JT2 blocks.......

Yes I know.. This is the first set of 6 blocks in the JT2 Sew- along..... I'm getting there slowly but surely. I have printed out the other set of block patterns so that I can make them at my own pace. These blocks are quite a challenge for me. I do not Applique and I have a difficult time with small blocks . I did figure out the applique with the help of my dear friend Doreen , they may not be perfect but I did it !

I am making most of my blocks with Jo Morton prints . Jo's variety and a few medium and dark solid fabrics. Here is my project basket with all of my fabrics I will be using. It has been alot of fun seeing what fabrics all of the other quilters in this sew along are using.

I don't know if you noticed it or not but there is 6 more Dear Jane blocks added to my " My Sister's Mirror " Dear Jane wall on my side bar and here they are ! If you do not follow my blog you may not know that Doreen is making these blocks as samples for her Dear Jane classes she is teaching and giving me the samples so that I can have my own Dear Jane quilt. Each DJ block is just so special to me and I just had to share. I just the love the fabrics and these are my first red & green blocks ! The top left block J7 was made with 40 tiny little pieces!

Finished my January Calendar Girl Block ! Doreen and I are making this adorable Calendar girls quilt together and each month we will be posting a picture of the stitchery block and then a picture of the block after we have sewn on our sashing for each one. Doreen is designing a different sashing for each block. We are using a layer cake of Rouenneries Deux by Moda .

Autumn Blossom... my second paper pieced quilt

I got this quilt back from the quilter and thought I would share with you my second paper pieced quilt AUTUMN BLOSSOM ..... Thanks to my dear friend Doreen who guided me over the internet with picture tutorials on how to paper piece these amazing quilt blocks. I could have not have made this quilt without her THANK YOU DOREEN ! This quilt was quite a challenge for me but I did it !
Just look at the machine quilting the quilter did on my quilt ! She did this ALL free hand too ! We used black batting and black fabric for the backing.
The fabric I used for this quilt is Jo Morton's CAROLINA! Isn't it just gorgeous fabric ! So fun to work with !

I do not know if you remember my 1st Paper pieced quilt;

Starry Eyed Quilt ......Another finish for 2012

Just finished my Starry Eyed Quilt made of all Countdown to Christmas fabric and just had to share it with all of you . As you can see it barely fits on my design wall. I am so glad I made this quilt it was fun fabric and a easy pattern.

This is the fabric I have chosen for my backing and the black with red stripe will be my binding.
Now I will have it ready for Christmas 2012.

January Calendar Girl

It is 65 degrees today and no signs of rain or snow here in California . BUT meet January Calendar Girl ! Isn't she just the cutest with her sled !

My dear friend Doreen is making the Redwork blocks for all 12 Calendar Girls for both of us . Our goal is finish this UFO from 2011 together in 2012. We have picked out our fabrics for a special sashing in mind for each block .

Each month we plan on sharing a redwork block and then a picture of the block with the sashing

Starry Eyed Quilt ......

Started my next project " STARRY EYED " over the weekend ...... I layer cake , 2 charms and the black / red stripe fabric is for my binding.
First thing I did was cut the layer cake into 2 1/2" strips............
Then..... I picked 2 contrasting strips and sew them together making 70 pairs
Then ..... I cut those sewn strips into 2 1/2" strips . Now have 280 strips !
Now the fun begins... sewing my blocks together . This is a fun fabric & fun pattern.

First Finish for 2012 2 Pepperment Pinwheels quilts & Mug Rug....

After posting my progress on my Pinwheel Quilts last night I continued sewing and finished the borders on the mini quilt & mug rug . These will be ready for Christmas 2012 . The table topper will go on my kitchen table , the mini quilt will go in the sleigh and of course the mug mug by my computer to use for my morning coffee :-D

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE !

I have been in the sewing room all day & having fun!!

I made 21 pinwheel quilt blocks and made a table topper , 17" mini quilt ( still need to sew a small pinwheel in each corner and add my borders and a mug rug . As you can see I still need to finish the mini quilt and mug rug.

I first saw this pattern when visiting Merumo's blog. I had the same fabric here already so I contacted Merumo to see if she minded me making my quilt tops similar to hers. She did not mind at all .

What a perfect way to start 2012 !

I finished my Hot Cross quilt made of all Maison De Garance fabric by Moda. It finished at 79" x 79" . This is quilt #13 for 2011

Not much sewing going on this week. For 2012 I have a few quilt projects lined up and a couple of UFOs I would like to finish.

We have a wedding in 2012 ! Our daughter is getting married November 3rd.

I know.... it is 1 week before Christmas and I started another quilt a couple of days ago..... I have had the Maison De Garance fabric by Moda for almost a year now and I was just dying to make a quilt out of it ! All of my blocks are sewn , I just need to square them up , sew them together and then add my borders

This is the fabric I have chosen.... The large red print is going to be my backing , the middle fabric is going to be my small border and the brown floral is going to be my large border.

AND THEN.......

This quilt is calling my name ... Starry Eyed Quilt ! You can find this pattern in the Moda Bakeshop for FREE! I have all of my Countdown for Christmas fabric and ready to go after I finish my Hot Cross Maison De Garance

I have to bake Christmas cookies in between sewing this week

Just finished this Christmas Candle Mat. This was a kit I bought at a quilt show last April. The pattern is #201 Christmas Candle Mat by Farmhouse Threads.

I am also in the process of sewing my Picnic Baskets blocks together that I am using my Lilac Hill fabric on. I hope to show pictures of my progress on Monday. The blocks are going to together quite quickly.

Now that the house is decorated inside and out and most of the Christmas shopping is done and presents wrapped. I can now enjoy some sewing before we start our baking next week.

Started another quilt ......... Lilac Hill Picnic Baskets

Actually I started this a few weeks ago just laying out all of my pieces on my design wall when I had time before sewing them together. I just fell in love with Lilac Hill fabric line by Moda ! I am not really a purple kind of girl but I really like the Cranberry red, deep dark brown and warm purple colors in this fabric.
This pattern uses 2 turnovers for the baskets and you cut each turnover in 1/2 to make the basket blocks. These fabrics are just yummy !
Here is my progress so far. So far I like what I see . Hoping to start sewing the blocks together this weekend.

Just got back Friday night from LAS VEGAS ! We stayed at The Palazzo in a suite WOW! Tuesday is my birthday and hubby took me to Las Vegas !

This quilt is for my soon to be son in-law. I made him this quilt and a set of pillowcases. The wedding is November 3rd 2012 !

I made is out of all Maison De Garance by Moda

This is going to my daughters Best Friend ! I also made her a quilt with matching set pillowcases.
This pattern is Bennington and I made it out of all Pure By Moda.

Still need to make a few more gifts......................

I really enjoyed working with "COLLECTION FOR A CAUSE fabric by Moda. This is the smallest blocks I have ever made and I just love the pink & brown in this quilt .

Just finished sewing on the binding on my " GOOD FORTUNE QUILT " .
Here is the backing I chose for the back of the quilt.
2 quilts done and 2 more to finish the binding on. These last 2 quilts were only 36" x 36" so they went quickly. These next 2 are much larger.

Fall Finale Quilt finished.........

Had a busy last 3 weeks and it feels good to be home and finish some bindings on my quilts. When we got home I found a box waiting for me from my quilter with 4 of my quilts all machine quilted. I quickly finished this little Fall quilt first so that I could enjoy it for awhile.

I made this quilt using the GRAND FINALE fabric by Moda . My quilter did a wonderful job quilting fall leaves on it.

We were in Reno last week celebrating our 39th wedding anniversary ! We stayed at the Peppermill ,and saw the musical " HAIRSPRAY " . We had a great time !

Fishing at the Lake.....

Hi ! Not much sewing going on. We have been taking a few trips and I thought I would share some pictures. 2 weeks ago we went to Pinecrest Lake , California with our friends. We got up that saturday morning to hook up the tent trailer to the truck and found that we had NO brakes lights on the truck or the trailer :-( I called up there and booked a townhouse last minute. We were determined to go after all of our planning and packing. The lake was low and we fished off the shore. We all caught our limit both days and our friend caught a BIG ONE 18 1/2" long. We walked around the cabins there and saw these mushrooms and carved bear & Racoon......... Just thought I would share some pictures from our trip....

Last week we drove to Apple Hill , California , had carmel apples HMMM ! and stayed overnight at Lake Tahoe . I will try to post some pictures next week.

Sewing Machines... 1 being repaired & 1 new

Hi ! No sewing for me the last 2 weeks :-( My Viking Sapphire 830 has been in the repair shop and boy do I miss sewing ! OH.... GOOD NEWS the repair shop just called and it all fixed and ready for me to pick up YEAHHH! All it needed was to be serviced and a belt replaced ! I am going to head down there this morning and pick it up.
A new addition to my Casige Toy sewing machine collection.... See the machine on the far left ?
Just bought this beauty on Ebay Isn't it cute with all of its little flowers.
Well I am off to pick up my sewing machine.... I have alot of sewing to catch up on

I have been busy binding these quilts and ..............

I also have been making a couple of sewing machine covers. Pots and Pins blog has a wonderful sewing machine cover tutorial that I used to make these sewing machine covers. I just love Roosters !

I also updated my blog by adding a page on the upper right hand corner of my blog with my QUILT FINISHES OF 2011. I also added this cute little red clock to my blog too.

The weather is finally turning cooler here and we even had a little bit of rain on Sunday. Fall is here !

Hellman-Ehrman Mansion Lake Tahoe and Log Cabin quilt...

We went on vacation a few weeks ago to Lake Tahoe and took a tour of the Hellman - Ehrman Mansion State Park . This is the front of Pine Lodge which sits on over 2,000 Acres and was built in 1903. Here is the link if you would like to read more http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=991

This lovely couple is our good friends Ken & Sue who went on this trip with us. We have been friends for over 40 years and my hubby has known Ken since Kindergarten over 55 years. They are sitting on the front porch of the mansion waiting for our tour and this is what they are looking at from the porch !

I can not believe that I have not posted on my blog since august 23rd ! We went to Lake Tahoe for a week with friends and I will share pictures with you in my next post. Meanwhile I have been decorating for fall. First we painted the front door red......

I have my large wreath & red basket decorated with sunflowers....
Of course I just had to decorate the mailbox.......
and the bar cabinet ........
This wonderful pumpkin seed quilt is just perfect on my couch don't you think ? Doreen made me this pumpkin seed quilt for my b-day in 2007......
The lovely little quilt and the little acorn people sits on my old treadle machine cabinet in the sewing room. Doreen made this for me for my b-day last year . Can you see the little acorn people to the right ?
We also had to replace our kitchen faucet and instant hot water.............
They now match my hanging light in the kitchen nook...
Then there is the mama and baby deer who come to visit us each day....
I just finished this quilt top ! I made it out of all Grande Finale fabric my moda and the picture below shows my backing and binding I have chosen .
I will try to post again the end of the week with pictures of our tahoe trip.

Red White & Wonderful Christmas Quilt finished......

Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend. We were on vacation last week so the only thing I accomplished was finishing the binding on my Red , White & Wonderful quilt. I had seen Thelma's quilt and fell in love with it. Thelma was kind enough to send me her pattern when she was done with it. I was very lucky to find the ROMAN HOLIDAY fabric by Moda I needed on EBAY.

Chai Tea Batik quilt finish ........

Hi ! I just finished sewing the binding on my " Chai Tea Quilt " last night and could not wait to hang it on my dining room wall this morning and share it with all of you .
This is the batik fabric I chose for the backing . Lots of trees !
I received 4 of my quilts back from the quilter last week so I have been busy binding ALL of them. I am going to start hand sewing the binding on my Red , White & Wonderful quilt tonight. I will be sure to post a picture of that one when I finish it.

Happy August 1st !

I have been able to finish a couple of more projects this last week.

This is " GOOD FORTUNE " and how I love this quilt. I made this quilt out of ALL Collection for a Cause " Legacy " fabric by Moda. This is a Schnibbles pattern by Miss Rosie's quilt co. This was a kit I purchased and included is the backing & binding too.

I also made this table runner for a friend's b-day gift who is a Rooster lover. This is made of LA PETIT POULET by Moda fabric except for the backing is a fabric I had in my stash.

She really loved her b-day gift. Now she has roosters on both sides of her table runner !

Another Finish... Bennington Pure Quilt .....

Just finished sewing on the binding on Bennington " Pure " Quilt . I made this quilt out of all Moda's PURE fabric line. The pattern is called Bennington and is from CArrie Nelson's " SCHNIBBLES TIMES TWO " book. This is going to be a christmas present and I plan on making matching pillowcases to go with it.

I just love the brown polka dot fabric I used for the binding.

Eventide Luna Notte Done.........

I completed my " EVENTIDE " this last weekend by finishing the binding ! I have decided to use this quilt on my guest bedroom bed. I did sew on a quilt sleeve on the back just in case I would like to display it on the wall . For those of you new to my blog I made this quilt in Thelma's EVENTIDE sew along and if it was not for her I know I would have never completed this amazing quilt. I made my quilt out of Luna Notte fabric from Moda.

WOW ! Where has this last week gone ???

Well to start with the instant hot water broke in the kitchen so I having been shopping around for a new one and a new kitchen faucet. Then the tv froze up so we have been dealing with the tv repairman AND my deskop computer stopped working so it is at the PC doctor ! When it rains it pours :-(

Last weekend I did get some sewing time in though...

I did make this " STARLIGHT LOG CABIN " quilt top . I made it out of all of Jo Mortons " HURRAH " fabric line and I ordered the red fabric for my border.

I also worked on my " GOOD FORTUNE " quilt I have 6 more stars to sew together and then start piecing it together. I am making this quilt out of all Moda Collection for a cause "LEGACY " fabric.

Hope everyone had a great weekend !

Thought I would share my #3 quilt back from the quilter " PURE ". This is going to be a christmas present for my daughter's good friend. This weekend I have sewn on the binding and started hand sewing it to the back.

I also decided this weekend to work on a couple of small quilt projects that I have been wanting to work on before starting another large quilt.

" Good Fortune "

This is a Schnibbles by Miss Rosie quilt Co. Pattern & I bought this quilt kit awhile back and the fabric line is " Collection for a Cause Legacy for Moda. The kit has everything I need to finish this quilt even the binding and backing fabrics.
Now I need to make the 12 little stars .

Here is another project I having wanted to get sewn together. Jo Morton Civil War Log cabin quilt blocks ! All done and ready for me to find some fabric for the 4 corners , border fabric and fabric for the backing.

My weekend started out when I found this old wheelbarrow at a garage sell for $1.00 ! Hubby drilled some holes for drainage & I quickly began planting my flowers . I'm a happy girl !

Oh how I love summer and how everything is in bloom !

I had received 3 of my quilts from the quilter tuesday.. This is #2 Maison De Garance Hot cross Buns quilt ! OH how I love French General fabric by Moda !

Every piece of this fabric is just more gorgeous then the next !

Just look at all of this wonderful quilting she did, just perfect for my future son in-law's xmas gift !

My hubby chose the backing for this one and I think it is just perfect ! Now to find the perfect fabric for binding. It is a toss for either a red or tan ?

This pile of fabric is why I have not been on my blog my blog this week and this is only 1/2 of it! Yes I am still cleaning out the sewing room and listing more fabric on Ebay. Good thing is though my stash closet is looking alot more oraganized !

Eventide Luna Notte is back from the quilter.........

I received my Eventide from the quilter yesterday and she did a amazing job !

She quilted a wreath on every single quilt block. I know it is hard to see them...

Here is a closer picture of one of the blocks !

I chose the tonal buttery yellow from the Luna Notte fabric line for my backing...

I need to bind the quilt next. I chose a tonal red for my binding and it should be in the mail by the end of the week.

Thanks again Thelma for having this wonderful sew a- long ! I know I would have NEVER made this quilt without you.

A very productive Sunday.........

I had a VERY productive Sunday. Got everything I wanted to accomplish done and checked off my list.

I prepared my quilting backings for these 3 quilts and now they are ready to be shipped off the the quilter . On the left CHAI TEA BATIK , in the center RED , WHITE AND BLUE WISSCASET and on the right RED , WHITE AND WONDERFUL am still looking for the perfect fabric for the backing on my GREEN TEA quilt. I think I am going to drive down to my local quilt shop today to see what they have.

I also listed ALOT of fabric on Ebay to go on this week ! I have been cleaning thru my stash , ironing , measuring , taking pictures of each one and listing. I still need to list this pile of fabric today .

Green Tea Quilt ...... Finished !

I finished my Green Tea Quilt today. This quilt measures 56 1/2" x 56 1/2" . The fabric I used is Fig Tree Mill House Inn fabric by Moda. I just love the greens and currant jam colors in this quilt. Looking forward to making more quilts of Fig Tree fabrics.

I started a new quilt project over the weekend. Green Tea !

This is my very first paper pieced quilt with the help of my good friend Doreen from Aunt Reen's Place and may I say I am having alot of fun making these quilt blocks. I am using Mill House Inn fabric by Moda. Just love this fabric and how the blocks are coming out.

I already made 3 of the 9 blocks and hope to finish this quilt this week. The blocks are good size 12 1/2"

Camping in Capitola......

Just got back from a few days in Capitola , Ca. This was our first time visting here and it was gorgeous !The beach was right across from us and we could hear the ocean waves all the time. It was so nice to sleep in the trailer by the sound of the waves. That is our tent trailer you see in the distance with our teal colored truck .

This was a very easy camping trip ! We ate all of our breakfast and Dinners at Zelda's . Great food and great prices. Thursday night was Lobster night ! 1# Lobster dinner for $11.99 and magaritas were $1.99 during happy hour.

I was amazed to see these gorgeous homes were built right on the beach ! WOW!

We walked down to seascape to visit the visitor center. These 2 eagles with them both holding onto a gopher were hanging on the ceiling above me. The story was that in the eagles excitement of catching a live gopher that the male did not see a power line and they were all killed . A person witnessed the event and they had them perserved for all to see. All I could do was stand there and stare at these magnificent birds. Such a tragic story

Can you see the ship at the end of this pier ? It is what is left of a ALL concrete ship !

It used to look like this in the 50's ! They used to hold fancy parties and dinners on this ship back then. Now it is cracked in half and all the birds call it home

I just finished sewing together my Chai Tea Batik quilt for the month of May .... Yeah!!!!

This is my first time making a quilt out of batik fabrics . Now I know why everyone loves working with batiks ! This was SO much fun to make

The Bourn Cottage.......

Believe it or not this is a quilt of the Bourn Cottage here in Nevada City, California
This beautiful quilt won Best of Show at our local quilt show and may I say this picture does not do it justice ! This is truly a piece of art. It took this quilter 1 year and 2 days to complete this quilt. She took 20 different pictures of the cottage for her reference in making this amazing quilt

Here are just a few pictures of the Bourn Cottage. It is located a the " Empire Mine Historic Park " here in Nevada City , California. I am fortunate to live only 15 minutes from this wonderful historic park. 800 acre State Park including the Empire Mine.

Making Progress On Chai Spice Tea quilt.....

Making great progress on my Chai Tea quilt made of batiks...
I have all of my pieces cut and am in the process of laying out all of my blocks before sewing them all together ! This is my first time working with batiks fabric and all I can say is WOW! What a great fabric to work with. Hop to have this all sewn together and finished by the end of the week.

I CAN'T WAIT TO GET STARTED ON THIS QUILT KIT !

When I am all done the quilt is going to look like this ( I hope ). I always shy away from ANY quilt pattern that uses templates but this one is supposed to be VERY easy! Time will tell though.

I picked this kit up at our Grass Valley Quilt show last saturday. Just look at these yummy fabrics 16 fat quarters . Hey look these fabrics coordinate with the colors of my blog !

Early Mother's Day gift.........

Thursday morning hubby took me to the local nursery and surprised me by telling me I could pick out a Weeping Cherry tree for my Mothers Day gift !
I fell in love with the first Weeping Cherry tree I saw ! I had never seen one like this before . This is a " CHEALS' WEEPING CHERRY TREE " with its bright double flowers and a trunk that has shiny peeling coppery bark on it. It was love at first sight !

Hubby planted it for me today next to my bridge and added some river rock to go under the bridge.

What a wonderful gift that I can enjoy everyday and watch grow in my garden.

Red , White & Wonderful Roman Holiday Christmas Quilt..............

Finished my Red , White & Wonderful quilt top made of Roman Holiday fabric by Moda ! I call this Roman Holiday because I was so lucky to find this fabric on Ebay a few weeks ago , it has been retired for quite some time. Oh how I love this quilt ! I went together rather quickly except for the mitered corners. Measures 57 1/2 " x 57 1/2" . This is going to be perfect to display at chirstmas time. I want to thank THELMA again for sharing this pattern with me. I have always wanted to make a red & white quilt. Another quilt I would like to make one day is a black & white quilt.

Thought I would share with you next quilt project ! RED , WHITE & WONDERFUL . ..

I know you are thinking a Christmas Quilt in April ? I guess I was just in the mood for a RED quilt and this one is Wonderful !

I first saw this quilt on Thelma's blog last January and just loved it. Thelma was kind enough to mail me her pattern when she was done with her quilt. The fabrics used are a older Moda fabric Roman Holiday. I searched and searched for this fabric and then found it on Ebay ! All of the fabric you see here is Roman Holiday except for the floral. The fabric I am using for the floral is Fancy HIll Farm Robyn Pandolf. I think it works well for the center blocks!

I cut all of my fabric Tuesday and made great progress piecing on wednesday.

I now need to sew the center together and then the tough part for me will be the 2 mitered borders . Yikes ! Never done that before !

We just got home last night from being out of town for a couple of days and this wonderful package was waiting for me in the mail . Thelma cupcakesndaisies made this adorable " MUG RUG " for me as a Thank You for participating in her EVENTIDE SEW ALONG . Isn't it just the cutest ? This side has a cupcake....

This side is made of the most adorable fabrics ! Can you see the cupcakes fabric ?

She also included the almost perfect match post a notes to go with it. As you can see the coffee cup I use very morning coordinates PERFECT!

THANK YOU THELMA !! I really enjoyed the Eventide sew -along ! I would have never made this quilt if it was not for you . How sweet of you to make this mug rug for me . I will use it every morning and think of you !

Red , White & Blue Wiscasset April 2011 Finish....

Red , White & Blue Wiscasset ..... Well as you can tell I was in the mood for red white & blue! Oh how I love this fabric. I made this from 4 charm packs , 3 Red FQ's , 2 yards beige print and 1 yard blue border fabric. The quilt now measures 59 1/2" x 59 1/2" . Hmmmm.. now I need to decide on my next quilt project ?

I have been working on my Red, White & Blue Wiscasset quilt the last couple of days and I am hoping to have the top all sewn together today. As you can see I only have to finish the pieced sashing on the 2 sides and then sew all the blocks together. The picture below shows what I started this project with. Well I just was not happy making this quilt with only 9 blocks SO I made 25 blocks instead & I love it. I guess you would call this Madeline all grown up ! The dark blue paisley will be my fabric for the outside border and the beige fabric with little red circles will be my small inside border. The white with blue paisley square you see there I have chosen for the backing of my quilt. I hope to post the finished quilt top Monday morning !

Viva Las Vegas.......

Thought I would show you where I was all last week..... Las Vegas ! It is hubby's 60th b-day this Friday and we went with our good friends to Las Vegas !

The first night we saw " KA" at the MGM and it was AMAZING!

The next day our friends took us for a drive and surprised hubby with 3 races on a indoor raceway. The 2 of them had SO much fun ! You see these 2 guys grew up together and have known each other since kindergarten Cool Huh ! Now don't they just look like professional race car drivers ?

The second night we went to "Aria ". Believe it or not there is a resturaunt in there !

When we went ARIA where we saw " VIVA ELVIS " also a CIRQUE DU SOLEIL ! WOW! Another great show !

When we got back home our kitty " Smokey was not eating ! We took her to the vet the morning we were supposed to drive down to the SF bay area. You see my girls were giving hubby a b-day party that day and we had most of the food , drinks etc. Smoky had a 103.9 fever and after running lots of test it was decided she had a infection. We brought her home and drove straight down to the party that was at 1PM and we arrived a 12:59 .

We had a wondrful time with all of our family and special friends. As you can see hubby is a big SF giants fan and he just loves this Jersey our future son in-law gave to him .

My Eventide Luna Notte and I received a special gift from Thelma cupcakesndaisies Eventide Sew a-long that she kindly hosted. Look what the mailman just brought me !!! The gift from Thelma and The Fat Quarter Shop ! The gift for being the first person to complete there Eventide quilt top. My gift was that I could choose any layer cake I wanted . I was like a kid in the candy store looking thru all of the layer cakes they have in their wonderful shop. It arrived today in a big box and when I opened the box this beautifully wrapped package was inside. I finally chose GRACE by 3 Sisters for Moda! This fabric is gorgeous in person ! I want the thank Thelma again for hosting this wonderful EVENTIDE sew a-long . It was SO much fun and I know that I would still be working away on this amazing quilt if it was not for Thelma. Also Thank you to the Fat Quarter Shop for sending me this wonderul fabric.

Another finish for 2011....... I just finished sewing the quilt sleeve and binding on my Log Cabin Quilt. YEAHHH! This quilt is all made of retired Thimbleberries fabric and measures 57 1/2" x 47 1/2".

Just look at the machine quilting my quilter did ! I am SO pleased with it.

Here they are all ready to be shipped to the quilter this morning ! Yeah!!

Eventide tht I made with Luna Notte fabric by Moda , Hot Cross made with Maison Garance by Moda and Bennington made with Pure by Moda!
I have backing for each one all sewen together except for Eventide which I am using a 108" backing fabric. I can't wait to see these when she is done doing her MAGIC ! It make sme SO nervous to mail a box like this out after ALL the hours I put into these quilts, that is why I insured it !!!!

Just look how cute my little acorn people Doreen made me for the b-day look on my pincushion. I just bought those 2 green baskets last week. The large basket is just perfect for my scraps when cutting and the smaller basket holds my rotary cutters. You will not believe where I bought these ! at my local Safeway grocery store ! I found them in the floral department. They are for potted plants and both lined with plastic. You should have seen the girls face when I told her I was buying them for my sewing room.

Are these just amazing or what !! My best Friend Doreen is making these blocks for me as she makes samples for her sisters who have decided they would like to make a DJ Quilt too. This is where the name of my DJ quilt name came to be " My Sisters Mirror " I feel SO lucky to have her making these for me. I never in my lifetime thought I would ever own one of these amazing quilts. Doreen just sent me this picture of these wonderful blocks and I could not wait to share them with you. She is mailing them out to me tomorrow and I just can not wait to see them in person. Please go see her Progress on her Dj quilt it is gorgeous !

In the mood for some Red , White & Blue Wiscasset...

Well after organizing the sewing room I decided it was time to start a new quilt ! So I look thru my stack of boxes that I have my quilt kits and projects in. The white wicker basket on top of the boxes is where I keep my Winter Wonderland blocks.

Look what I found in my stack of Project boxes ! Schnibbles by Miss Rosie's Quilt Company Madeline Pattern with Moda Wiscasset fabric by Polly Minick & Lauri Simpson I had bought last summer. I even have the background fabric and border fabrics that I need. I plan on making more than the 9 blocks the pattern shows. I would like to make at least 18 or more but I will see how far my fabric goes. I know it is spring but I was just in the mood for some Red, White & Blue !

Just finished my Eventide Quilt ! Whoo Hoo! I made this out of ALL Luna Notte quilt fabric by Moda . This fabric is just so beautiful to work with ! I have decided not to piece the border like the pattern , I think the quilt is busy enough so I am going to have this quilted and then add my binding. I would like to THANK Thelma of cupakesndaisies for having this wonderful sew-along ! If it were not for the sew-along I might have given up. Thelma says that there is 1,1115 pieces in this quilt . I am looking forward to seeing all of the other girls progress and watch their quilts in progress. So many of them are using different fabric. This should be alot of fun !

Spring plants in bloom in my garden

Thought I would share a few of my plants blooming to get you in the mood for Spring !

Even though we had lots of snow and cold weather the blooms hung in there. I have also been keeping my birdfeeders full for all of my birds that visit me each day.

I don't know about you but I am really ready for Spring my favorite time of year !

Eventide Luna Notte progress week 2

Snow and No power in California........

Exciting couple of days here in California ! We had a large cold front storm come thru here the last couple of days. They were expecting snow even in San FRancisco but that did not happen . As you can see by the picture only about 7" of snow but we lost power here for 16 hrs :-( Luckily we have a generator so when hubby wasn't using it for the refrigerators he would let me plug in my iron and sewing machine :-D What a guy !!!

Seaside Rose quilt back from the quilter .....

I was SO excited tuesday morning when the UPS driver knocked on our door ( we do not have a door bell ). There was a box from the quilter with 4 quilt tops I had sent her ALL machine quilted so beautifully ! I just love how she quilted this !
3 of these quilts are going to be gifts so guess what I will be doing every night ? Yes binding quilts . SO during the day I will try to work on Eventide and the hand sew binding on quilts at night while watching TV.

This is going to be SO much fun. I have joined Thelma of Cupcakes 'n' Daisies Eventide Quilt sew a-long. I was going to start this quilt next anyway and how perfect is it that Thelma stared this sew a-long ! Here is just a peek of one of the Ohio Star blocks I have made. The quilt consists of 42 of these gorgeous blocks. I am making my quilt out of ALL Luna Notte quilt fabric.

Another finish for 2011.. Bennington Pure

Finished Bennington using "Pure" by Moda. This went together VERY quickly ! Measures 65 1/2 X 65 1/2". I am really looking forward to seeing what the quilter does with this. Those big empty spaces in the middle of the blocks is just crying out for a special design don't you think ?

Time to clean up the sewing room for my next project ! I will share my new project with you in a couple of days.

These are my first 2 DJ blocks. Yes I am going to have my very own DJ quilt thanks to my good friend Doreen. Doreen emailed me last month and asked if I would like a DJ Quilt. Of course I said YES! What she is doing is helping her sister make her DJ quilt blocks by making each one with her and the samples she is making are going to be for me. Am I not the luckiest girl in the world !!!! I just love these Jo Morton fabrics she is using. LOVE THEM ! Doreen also made me a DJ quilt wall on the sidebar of my blog so everyone can see her progress. The name for my DJ quilt is " MY SISTER'S MIRROR " . I still can not believe that I am going to have my very own DJ quilt . THANK YOU DOREEN !

Winter Wonderalnd blocks # 2

I am SO enjoying making these star blocks for the Winter Wonderland quilt by Crabapple Hill. This Lumiere de Noel by French general is so gorgeous and gives the blocks that nice vintage look. I made these 5 blocks over the weekend. This is a quilt I will be working on during the year in between projects with my good friend Doreen. We are making this quilt together and hope to have them complete by xmas.

Quilt project for February..... Pure

Well the weather has been just gorgeous here that last few weeks. We have been in the high 60's. We have been busy power washing the deck , shampoo the carpets and doing alot of spring cleaning inside the house and outside. This is just crazy weather for us in January ! Some of my bulbs are already blooming .
I have decided that my project for February will be the Bennington quilt from Carrie Nelson's Schnibbles times two book. I am using the PURE fabric line from Moda. The blue with circles fabric will be the outside border and the brown polka dot fabric will be for the inside border. In the second picture the off white fabric I have layed out will be my background fabric for the blocks. I think this fabric will give a nice contrast with the fabrics. I am waiting for the off white fabric that I ordered so I think I will start cutting these beautiful browns, latte and blue fabrics. I should be able to get this one done by the end of the month.

It is hard to believe it is FEBRUARY 1ST already ! I made this quilt last year and I am using it for my dining room table with my oil candles. Since I have finished HOT CROSS quilt I am trying to decide which quilt I would like to start for this month. This weekend I finished my HOT CROSS Maison de Garance quilt ! The finished size will be 78" x 78" when I finish trimming it. This quilt went together VERY quickly. The pattern is from the Schnibbles Times Two book by Carrie Nelson. The pattern asked for 2 layer cakes but I use 1 layer cake and 1 honey bun. This will be a xmas gift.

Finished the blocks for Maison de Garance Now what ??

Yeahh! I finished all 36 quilt blocks for the Maison de Garnace Hot Cross quilt. I have spent alot of time arranging these blocks but I get more confused the more I play with them. Just nothing is helping me figure out the best way to lay these blocks out . Help! I would appreciate any suggestions anyone would have as far as how to arrange these. I have never made a scrappy quilt before. Usually the quilts I make are simple and uniform patterns. I feel out of control with this one :-(
The second picture is the fabrics I have chosen to finish the quilt with. The first fabric in the lighter coffee color is for the inside border, the second fabric in the dark chocolate fabric is for the outside border and large print with birds is for the backing.

Making GREAT progress on my HOT CROSS quilt ! I have 1/2 of the blocks done. Hubby was gone ALL day saturday and I took the opportunity to work on my quilt. What fun these are to make . The fabrics are just GORGEOUS !! You see hubby is retired and home 24/7 so I never have a full day to myself like this. What a perfect day of playing music , drinking tea and sewing ALL day. If I can finish 3 or 4 blocks a day I should be able to sew this quilt together by the end of the week.

HOT CROSS MAISON de GARANCE QUILT....

Another start of a new quilt for 2011 ! The pattern is from the wonderful " Schnibbles times two book ! The pattern is called " Hot Cross " . I will be making this out of all " MAISON de GARANCE " by Moda. The finished size will be 69 1/2" x 69 1/2" and each finished block is a good size of 9 1/2" x 9 1/2". I am making this for my daughters boyfriend for xmas. I have been dying to make something out of the fabric line ! I know ! Xmas is not for another 11 months but what better time to work on this quilt when it is SO cold outside. These blocks go together very quickly and I think they really this quilt will be perfect for a man. I will also be working on my Winter WOnderful with Doreen this year little by little .

Winter Wonderland quilt 2011..

All the christmas decorations & tree are put away and now I am ready to make some quilts. First quilt I will be working on from time to time this year is " WINTER WONDERLAND by Crabapple Hill". My good friend Doreen and I will be working on this quilt together . There are 24 snowflake blocks to make for this amazing quilt and we are both using " Lumiere de Noel by French general for Moda " . This fabric is just gorgeous and just perfect for our snowflake blocks. Doreen has generously offered to make all of the redwork Snowmen blocks for both of our quilts . As you can see I have completed 3 of the snowflake blocks and have only 21 more blocks to go.... Doreen and I are going to really enjoy making these together.

As 2010 comes to a end I reflect on the great fun I had making these quilts ! My favorite quilt that is VERY close to my heart the the WINTER ROSE quilt that Doreen and I made together . My second favorite is the Maison Bleue quilt that I made of all Martinique fabric. I am already starting my list of quilts that I would like to complete in 2011. Sorry I have been MIA the last couple of weeks. We were busy with the baking and wrapping . Then I was sick in bed the week before christmas & thought I would not be able to have xmas with my family BUT I was feeling much better the thursday before xams YEAHHHHH!

Christmas in San Francisco.......

San Francisco is SO beautiful at christmas time ! After my drs. appointment thursday we decided to drive over to Larkspur and take the ferry over to San Francisco. It was a beautiful day 58 degrees. We took the bus to Union Square and walked around. There is a street named Maiden LAne and I found the London clothing store that had 100's of Antique sewing machines in there window ! WOW! I could not believe my eyes. We had lunch a FUZIOS in the embarcadero and had calamari , crab cakes and paella. The first 2 pictures in inside the Hyatt Regency Hotel , isn't it just gorgeous ! There were 2 ice rinks. One in Union square and one at the embarcadero. What a wonderful day in the city ! Enjoy the picture I took !

I put up my little Christmas Trees and decorated them with my collection of Williraye christmas ornaments ! Don't they just look perfect with the Winter Rose quilt and Doreen and I made together ! I do love this quilt .

Christmas Nature Wreath to Greet my Friends

I have this VERY large wreath hanging on my front porch right next to my front door and I decorate it for every holiday. This year I picked up some wonderful garland with birds, birdsnest and pinecones. I added my favorite little birdhouse on the bottom of the wreath.
We have been busy with the new concrete walkways we are having put in the backyard. The guy came yesterday and started preparing the walkwasy and building the forms. He was going to have the concrete pourde friday but we are expecting rain tonight. Oh well we are in no hurry.

It is starting to look like christmas in our home ......

I made this quilt " CHRISTMAS HOUSE " quite a few years ago and so enjoy hanging my quilts up for the holidays.

For the last 4 days we have been decorating the house, wrapping presents and getting ready to have new concrete walking paths put in the back yard. YES that is right concrete walking paths. I know it is not the time of year to be doing this but boy it sure is going to be nice when they are done.

I received this VERY SPECIAL GIFT from my VERY SPECIAL FRIEND Doreen ! Isn't is just amazing ! Doreen used a Fig Tree exclusive Club Member Pattern using ALL Fig Tree fabrics ! I JUST LOVE IT! She machine pieced , hand appliqued and machine quilted this beautiful quilt ! She used a gorgeous brown batik fabric for the appliqued pumpkin and customized the center of the pumpkin with a " B" for Babich ( my last name ) She also made me these AMAZING Acorn people that she created ALL by hand. They are only 3" tall and SO intricately done. She also sent me a yummy apple cider candle and a box of Dove Happy Birthday chocolates. When I unwrap each chocolate each wrapper inside has a special b-day message ! WOW!! I must have been a REAL good girl this year to receive such a Thoughtful & Kind Gifts . THANK YOU DOREEN ! I LOVE , LOVE LOVE EVERYTHING ! YOU ARE SUCH A SPECIAL FRIEND !!

WINTER ROSE QUILT........ This beautiful quilt is a original design by my good friend Doreen , go check out her blog and see her quilt ! Together we each made this quilt and they are identical. You see I live in California and Doreen lives in Virginia. Even though we are thousands of miles apart we have become very close friends.Over the internet we made these quilts together. We have the same taste in quilts and this quilt was alot of fun for us to work on together. Doreen made the actual quilt blocks and we had our quilts machine quilted exactly the same. I am looking forward to our next quilt together.
I know it is a christmas quilt but I plan on keeping it hung on my dining room wall all thru winter.

Been Decorating for Fall my favorite time of year ! This large wreath hangs on my front porch and I decorate it for every season. The quilt tablerunner I have on my dining room table and the last picture is wreath I have in the dining room that lights up. I have been very busy sewing for Ebay and raking the yard of leaves & acorns. Fall is so beautiful up here in the foothills with all of the Maple trees changing color.
I am celebrating my b-day on Monday . Hubby is taking me away for the weekend.

My Sewing Room & Sewing Machine Collection

I thought I might share some pictures of my sewing room. I am VERY fortunate to have my own room that I use as a Sewing Room/ Office. I got rid of my large desk and had these cabinets put in. One side is my office and one side is for sewing. As you can see my closet holds my fabric and each basket is labeled by season. The the wicker bookcase I store my quilts completed and the plastic boxes on the bottom shelf hold quilt projects . I collect Antique childrens sewing machines and have them displayed thru out the room.
It has been raining the last 3 days so I have been using my time wisely cleaning and organizing my sewing room. Just thought it was a Kodak moment ! Enjoy !

A week in Carmel by the sea.......

Just returned from spending a week at Carmel-by-the-Sea. We went with our good friends Ken & Sue. We were celebrating both of there b-days and our 38th wedding anniversary ! Ken and my husband Jim went all thru school together. When I say school I mean from kindergarten till now they have been friends. Cool huh ! We stayed a a bed & breakfast in carmel only 4 blocks from the beach :-) We shared a cute little cottage with 2 bedrooms and a fireplace. Thought I would just post some pictures for you to see. ENJOY!

Lake Tahoe & The Quilt Shop

We took a wonderful trip to Lake Tahoe. What a beautiful drive this time of year ! We stopped by " APPLE HILL " on the way where they have every kind of apple you could imagine! About 20 minutes from Lake Tahoe is a AMAZING quilt store! THE QUILT HOUSE in Gardnerville, Nevada. WOW! I controled myself and the only thing I bought was the patterns for the framed quilts you see in my last picture! ENJOY!

PUMPKIN HILL QUILT FOR AUTUMN FINISH !

PUMPKIN HILL QUILT ! Just finished the binding and quilt sleeve YEAH!! As you can see I have this hanging in my sewing room / office right above my cutting table/ drafting table. Oh how I love any fabric of Joanna Figueroa ! First of all I did not make this quilt top. I purchased this on Ebay and what a DEAL!! Just the patterns alone are $65.00. I can really appreciate the hours put into all the applique and piecing. This is a BUNNY HILL DESIGNS pattern named " PUMPKIN HILL ". The woman I bought this from is a quilter who made this while teaching the class. It is made of all fabric used in the original pattern " A DAY IN THE COUNTRY " BY JOANNA FIGUEROA AND LISA QUAN FOR FIG TREE QUILTS FOR MODA. My longarm quilter did a great job with all the swirls like a autumn breeze and all the little detail on the pumpkins , house, birds etc....

Been gone a few days. Just got back from camping and boy was it cold at night but we caught trout and had a great time. I will post pictures of the camping trip friday.
Just had to share another quilt I just finished! I made this quilt from all Moda fabric I had in my stash. I finished sewing on the binding and quilt sleeve while sitting by the campfire. Just love how it came out
